About me

Hello, my name is Marcus Cazzola Helms and I'm a Software Engineer. For the past 2 years I have been working at The GD Studio where I was developing the in-house game engine which is a tool for other developers to make levels and different effects.

My interest for programming started back in high school ("gymnasium"), when my school got HTC Vive VR headsets. At first me and my friends were just playing games on the VR headsets, but then our teacher said "we have bought the VR headsets for students to make games". I gave it a try and started to make some VR games in Unity. Then I was hooked on programming and VR, and after school I usually sat by the school's PC making small demos of VR games.

My interest for AI started during the summer of 2019 when I decided to create an AI stocks trading bot that was going to analyze past stock price data and make trades automatically. At first I had very little knowledge AI, so I started watching YouTube videos that first described basic statistical models and later on neural networks.

The interest that I got most recently is graphics programming. It started at The GD Studio when I was going to convert the game engine's graphics API from DirectX 11 to DirectX 12. A graphics API the the code that communicates with the graphics card (GPU) and shows objects on the screen. When I worked with DirectX 12 I got a deeper understanding of a modern graphics API and I feel like there is always more to learn with GPU programming and it is a challenge that is rewarding when I complete something new. On my YouTube channel I have made some DirectX 12 programming tutorial videos to help other people who want to learn DirectX 12 https://www.youtube.com/@marcuscazzola4005/videos
